Gavin Lurssen

Gavin Lurssen is the president and principal engineer at Lurssen Mastering, Inc. He is a twelve-time Grammy nominee and a four-time Grammy winner. Artists whose albums he has mastered include the Foo Fighters, Ben Harper, Queens of the Stone Age, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Eric Clapton, and Sara Bareilles. Soundtracks include all Game of Thrones episodes, The Mandalorian, Mulan, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, The Hunger Games and Westworld.

Gavin has been in the forefront of, and in many cases a contributor to, the many technical developments that have taken place in the industry over the past three decades.

He is a graduate of The Berklee College of Music in Boston and is a recipient of their Distinguished Alumni Award for his achievements in mastering. 

Gavin also regularly leads and takes part in discussion panels throughout the United States and internationally through organizations like SXSW, The Recording Academy and AES, amongst others. He has served three terms on the Los Angeles Chapter of the Board of Governors of The Recording Academy (The Grammys) and during the most recent sitting served as the chair of the Professional Development Committee. The committee, formerly known as the Education Committee, prepared and executed many initiatives involving college and university students preparing to enter the music industry. During his tenure he also travelled to Washington, D.C. twice to participate in The Grammys On The Hill initiatives, lobbying for artists’ rights as well as leading and participating in meetings with many prominent members of the extended music community, including members of congress of the Los Angeles districts to help secure and enhance artists’ royalty rights. He also is a regular contributor and author of articles and interviews in the trade magazines.

Eager to advance the music production industry and especially to assist young people choosing a career in the field, Gavin performs volunteer work for several notable organizations. Many students approach him for advice and guidance as they start their careers in the music industry.
